In this pilot film for an Irish TV series, the talented Sean McGinley stars as the unorthodox detective Carl McCadden called in with his partner (Andrea Irvine) to investigate the death of a petty criminal. One discovery leads to another and the pair get mixed up with drug barons and eventually the Irish authorities themselves. The film portrays a very sophisticated Garda and McCadden is an engagingly complicated, stubborn personality. It's all competent enough as a film, but we've seen this kind of plot and partnership many times before, though perhaps not in this setting. That powerful actor Brendan Gleeson, since seen in such cinema films as The General, has a major supporting role.
