New York's mob scene is director Sidney Lumet's forte, but crime takes a back seat to the human element in this Sharon Stone vehicle. She plays a gangster's moll on the run from her ex-boyfriend (Jeremy Northam), with a seven-year-old kid (Jean-Luke Figueroa) in tow. George C Scott steals all his scenes as the mobsters' main man and, even if this remake is not a touch on John Cassavetes' 1980 original, Stone gives a powerful central performance. Certainly worth a look.
