A thoughtful, sombre drama set in present-day New York City, focusing on a free-spirited Jewish woman living among orthodox Jews who question her role in the community. We follow the problems faced by Sonia Horowitz (Renée Zellweger) in her marriage to religious teacher Mendel (Glenn Fitzgerald). Issues are painted in black-and-white, but some excellent performances lift this from the soapy melodrama it could have become.
