Eyes Wide Shut

Tom Cruise plays the New York doctor who embarks on a harrowing all-night sexual odyssey after his art curator wife (Nicole Kidman) admits that she came close to cheating on him. A series of unfulfilling encounters with the daughter of a dead patient and a hooker follow, before his welcome into a secret sexual party could mean he loses all those he holds dear. A smorgasbord of heaving human flesh and sexual conundrums from veteran director Stanely Kubrick.

Eyes Wide Shut

Wealthy doctor Tom Cruise and bored wife Nicole Kidman would appear to be the perfect couple.

Once at a society party, however, he flirts happily with girls who throw themselves at him, while she gets drunk in minutes and is whirled round the dance floor by a Hungarian gigolo.

Back home, smoking pot, they are soon at each other's throats, she taunting him about the affair she could have had with a naval officer.

Haunted by this, Cruise, after dallying with a prostitute, finds himself, via a friend, masked and caped at an occult-style orgy in a vast country mansion. A nightmare scenario follows...

The story is not terribly interesting and could have certainly been told at half this length; the orgy scenes, though full of vigorously copulating couples, are pretty silly and the dialogue is often clumsy and its raw language constantly undercuts any poignancy the film might seem to be gathering.

Personally, I thought this was the best SK film to date. I found it tense and bizarre and realistic. I am not a big fan of Tom Cruise but this is by far his best performance to date. And Nicole Kidman is awesome
