The former actress made her feature directorial debut with the comedy-drama On A Clear Day.
Although she landed acting roles in late 1980s TV series including Hard Cases and Floodtide, Dellal always wanted to be behind the camera.
But at the age of 26 she had her first child (with ex-husband and Notting Hill producer Eric Fellner) and he career "slowed down".
"“I think I am probably the best person to tell a story about men. I’m fascinated by the male psyche. I understand it."
However, her short films include Football, starring Helena Bonham Carter, and Rosebud, with Rachel Weisz, which was part of the feature Tube Tales.
In 2005, she made On A Clear Day, starring Peter Mullan as a redundant Glasgow dockworker who swims the Channel.
