The year is 2025 and footie and basketball have been replaced by futuresport, where the ball is electrified and people hover on flying skateboards to play. Wesley Snipes is Obike Fixx, the inventor of the game, and he's also a guardian angel of the Downzone, an LA ghetto. Dean Cain is the hunky hero of the sport and Vanessa L Williams is a reporter. The costumes recall those of the Borg in Star Trek, but the skateboard arena set designers come up with imaginative ideas that give the piece considerable visual style. Made for TV, this entertaining movie skates by on its neat ideas, likeable performances and big-budget special effects.
