Not so much Bringing Out the Dead as Bringing Out the Dope. Medical student Tom (Jason London) enrols in a penny-ante paramedic service where partner Jimmy (Todd Field) is already dabbling in drugs on the job. Soon the two are heavily into heroin. The dope ruins Tom's romance with a nurse (Roxana Zal) and inevitably leads to a downward spiral in the guys' lives. Edgy, doomy, help-me stuff, as good as it could be on a very low budget. Worth a look and a good calling card for its young director.
