A TV movie based on a notorious real-life spy case from the 1990s. Aldrich Ames (Timothy Hutton) is a CIA agent with a drink problem. Desperately needing money to finance his lifestyle (and an extravagant wife), Aldrich begins to sell names of spies to the Soviets. Inevitably, the stakes are raised as his treachery escalates. Hutton is good as the browbeaten husband and Elizabeth Peña excellent as his materialistic wife. But the film (which is full of inaccuracies) is stolen from them both by wily Joan Plowright as the head of the team of investigators who finally close the net on the traitor.
