Intended as a teen Stepford Wives with a twist, this dark tale of rebellious kids being turned into eerily clean-cut jocks and girls-next-door is too incoherent to achieve its aims. Newly transplanted to Cradle Bay after his brother's suicide, Steve (James Marsden) finds the school ruled by the Blue Ribbons, straight-A students with zero tolerance for all forms of non-conformity. Teaming up with punk Rachel (Dawson's Creek's Katie Holmes) and brilliant slacker Gavin (Nick Stahl), Steve discovers that rejecting the cult of perfection is a dangerous business. Furthermore, there are unscrupulous parents who would rather have a polite zombie than a sullen rebel... Although embracing many of the tried and tested cliches of popular teen horror flicks, this film fails to be either scary or witty and the attractive young cast are left struggling with inferior and often unpleasant material.
