A fun murder thriller with a blackly comic tone and a wonderful star performance by William H Macy as a film critic whose girlfriend hits her head and dies during an argument with him. Being a film expert, he knows that in a Hollywood movie any self-respecting killer would erase his tracks and this is what he sets out to do. However, he hasn't reckoned on a blackmailing private detective (James Cromwell), and before long, one murder leads to another... Macy is exquisite at portraying edgy guilt, effortlessly adding 'sleazy romeo' to his character in a quirky and darkly entertaining film with lots of movie jokes and references to amuse.
