About the only original touch in this Steel soap opera is its starting point - the Russian Revolution of 1917. Still, an American Tail did that too - and made much more inventive use of it than writer L Virginia Browne manages here, as she regurgitates Steel's story of a young countess as she endures sanitised hardships in her bid to find happiness in the New World. As predictable as it's unlikely, the telemovie has bland leads in Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner, while Diana Rigg and David Warner slum it in supporting roles. Just about passes the time if the weather outside is foul.
