The variable Stephen Baldwin is very effective here as Caleb Barnes, a Salt Lake City police detective who, numbed with grief after the death of his son in a shooting accident, tries to track down a hammer-wielding serial killer. With its cheap-looking filming and cut-price atmosphere, this satisfyingly twisty crime thriller plays like an old-fashioned B-movie and is none the worse for that. The set-up and plot are entirely credible and there's plenty of tension in the direction. The main deficiencies are some surprisingly poor supporting acting, hollow dialogue and a too-obvious killer. Even so, it's still eminently watchable.
