Set in Durham at the time of the miners' strike of the 1980s, this appealing drama focuses on Billy (Jamie Bell) who, useless at boxing, has rhythm in his toes and joins the ballet class run by Mrs Wilkinson (Julie Walters). This inevitably results in raging strife with his widower father (Gary Lewis) and brother (Jamie Draven), especially when Billy declares his desire to try for the Royal Ballet School. A well-made, heartwarming film with a brillliant performance from Bell.
