Trendy from the title on down, and alien territory to anyone under 20, this British clubs 'n' drugs thriller may feature ecstasy, but won't induce it. But it isn't without its interesting aspects, in particular the appearance of former soap golden boy Jason Donovan as a blowsy, ageing crossdresser. Matthew Rhys plays a northerner who comes down to the Big Smoke after his brother nosedives off a warehouse roof. But did he jump or was he pushed? Rhys's investigations take him into the dark heart of London's ravey club scene, and into a face-off with its sinister Mr Big, Tim Curry. Now, Mr Curry is always hammier than the meat counter at the supermarket. But here he excels himself, playing it like some demon king in a Christmas panto. His performance topples the film into moustache-twirling melodrama, making it hard to take seriously its vicious climax. The trappings are sometimes intriguing but, overall, Sorted is nothing to rave about.
