Showbusiness legend has it that the young actor was "discovered" in a New York playground aged three.
After appearing in more than 50 commercials, he made his screen debut in the TV series Soul Man and went on to attract attention as Rusty Duritz in Disney's The Kid.
"I'd like to be a cop, or a secret agent, maybe even a director but I will always love acting."
Breslin went on to appear alongside Ben Stiller in the comedy Meet The Parents and the New Zealand children's comedy Ozzie with Joan Collins.
In 2002, he played Curtis the experimental elf in The Santa Clause 2 and starred alongside Dakota Fanning and Mike Myers in the live action version of Cat in the Hat.
Recent work includes the comedy drama Raising Helen with Kate Hudson and Joan Cusack.
