This dark thriller about the relationship between a glamorous thief (Asia Argento) who wants to go straight and a teacher (Jared Harris) is director Michael Radford's rather disappointing follow-up to his delightful Il Postino. The basic idea behind the plot is sound, but it just doesn't seem to grip as it should. Argento (daughter of cult horror director Dario Argento) gives her role all she can and is sparky and sexy, but she, and the rest of the cast, is let down by a script which is merely adequate. The best performance is given by Rupert Everett, as Argento's criminal mentor. An interesting film, but there's a better one struggling to surface.
