In this straightforward love story Wesley Snipes plays the carpenter/odd-job man who meets music teacher Zora (Sanaa Lathan) who's just moved into her new apartment. They think they've got something going together, but there are always complications: his secret (married with two kids), hers (epilepsy), and the constant worry over money. She's trying to cut a demo tape; he needs to get a contractor's licence to obtain steady work. Arguments occur. This overwhelming sense of poverty drags the film down - perhaps it's all too gloomily real and despite the pat happy ending and good performances from the leads, there's nothing special in the tale.
