A film of many modest pleasures, this sunny comedy finds director Barry Levinson (of Rain Man fame) far from his usual Baltimore beat. But, although it'll make you smile on a number of occasions, this wispy Irish 'piece' is ultimately less than the sum of its parts. Catholic Brian McEvoy and Protestant Brian F O'Byrne, barbers at a Belfast hospital, dream up a promising business venture in hairpieces when Ireland's chief rugman, Scalper (Billy Connolly) is carted in for an extended stay. Rivals called Toupee or Not Toupee try to head them off, the cue for a series of amusing incidents that include the boys turning a kidnap by hooded IRA gunmen into a sales pitch and an ancient priest who'll only have a wig made of Catholic hair. Anna Friel is feisty and fun as McEvoy's girlfriend in this hairless, harmless romp.
