The young actor attracted attention for his Americanised portrayal of Peter Pan - traditionally taken by a girl - in PJ Hogan's version of JM Barrie's classic.
Raised in Kentucky until he was 11, he made his small screen debut in an episode of ER in 1994 when he was just five.
In 2001 he made his feature debut in Frailty, opposite Bill Paxton and Matthew McConaughy, followed by a part in surfing movie Local Boys.
He won a Young Artist Award for the TV movie Just a Dream, directed by Danny Glover and starring Carl Lumbly.
Peter Pan saw him starring opposite Jason Isaac's Captain Hook and British newcomer Rachel Hurd-Wood as Wendy.
