David Dukes and Andrea Marcovicci turn in moving performances of subtlety and strength as a young engaged couple forced to examine their commitment following a surfing accident. Dukes is particularly memorable as the victim, who has to re-evalute and redefine his masculinity in the light of a spinal injury. The film, written by Mary and Jack Wills based on their true life experience, handles the problems of being handicapped with restraint, avoiding the pitfalls of melodrama. Director Jerrold Freedman is a veteran of several TV movies, as well as directing the Raquel Welch film Kansas City Bomber.
