The sequel to Walter in which Ian McKellen continues his moving portrayal. His co-star is Sarah Miles who plays June, a depressed and suicidal young mother who soon forms an attachment with Walter. He characteristically responds to her cry for help. She persuades him to run away to London with her, with disastrous consequences for them both. Novelist David Cook himself wrote the screenplay, based on his sequel to Walter entitled Winter Doves. As before, the new film was directed by Stephen Frears.
