A sort of unholy sideshoot to Monty Python's Life of Brian, this Hollywood comedy, little seen in this country's cinemas, has Dudley Moore as Herschel, who fondly imagines that it was he, and not Moses, who was chosen to lead his people out of bondage. Guy Thomas' script is peppered with amusing puns and clever situations, although director Gary Weis' pacing is too often slow to take advantage of them all. Laraine Newman has a nicely offbeat personality as the heroine, and James Coco is a delight as Herschel's father.
