This romantic comedy was adapted from a successful stage play. Ingrid Bergman is a delight as the staid secretary (blooming rarely, like the cactus of the title) who is asked by her dentist boss (Walter Matthau) to pose as his wife to fend off his marriage-obsessed mistress (Goldie Hawn). The trouble is Bergman soon finds herself falling for her boss and so the rivalry becomes real. It has plenty of fun moments, most notably when Goldie Hawn is on screen, who, in only her second film appearance, won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
