The Music Man

A big, brassy, rumbustious musical packed with hummable tunes. Robert Preston repeats his Broadway triumph as the travelling swindler who breezes into River City, Iowa, in 1912, and tells its citizens they 'have trouble with capital Tand that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool' - planning to woo the youngsters away from playing pool and sell the citizens a fortune's worth of musical instruments to form a boys' band. Hermione Gingold also excels as a mayor's wife with an astonishing collection of hats and a firm conviction that all literature is smut.
