Pretty risky business, actually, in that the family tradition here, through three generations, is crime. Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman and Matthew Broderick represent the generations involved, all three going on an exciting heist when the grandson feels he has to prove himself in the family tradition. It's quite enjoyable, although fairly lightweight by the standards of the talents involved, including director Sidney Lumet. And it's difficult to sympathise with the film's moral point of view. Still, Connery is at his roguish best as the grandpa and Broderick does well as the young sprig. Hoffman seems miscast as Broderick's dad, letting Connery steal all the best moments.
