If you enjoyed director Alex Cox's quirky spoof western 'Straight to Hell', then this political true-life diatribe will be right up your street. Otherwise, you'll probably agree with most critics who declared it a disaster area and fiasco. It retells an incident from the 1850s when an American mercenary invaded Nicaragua with 58 men and declared himself President, but then goes on to bring it bang up to date with TV footage of Ronald Reagan attempting to justify his own government's invasion of the country in the 1980s. Coke cans, Rolex watches and modern-day combat helicopters feature in the 19th century footage just to add to the confusing mêlée. The acting is generally OTT, with deaf actress Marlee Matlin woefully misused in her first film since winning the Best Actress Oscar for 'Children of a Lesser God'.
