This is a sort of yuppie version of Cary Grant's 'Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House'. Tom Hanks and Shelley Long are the city couple who buy their dream house, but the restoration turns into a nightmare. Some of the horrors will strike familiar notes with anyone who has been at the mercy of builders and plumbers, and some scenes are genuinely funny. Where the whole thing parts company with reality is with the house itself. It looks about the size of Buckingham Palace and you keep asking: "How can they afford it? " Still, Hanks and Long, both likeable personalities, work extra hard to keep things bubbling and, for the most part, they succeed.
