Potential for good, family entertainment in 'Tribute' is given way to a poignant creation for Jack Lemmon. He stars as a fun-loving, failed movie producer and writer, who plays a role that was effectively written for him. The caricatures, and bright and breezy one-liner are captivating. However, without the required wit in Bernard Slade's writing from his own play, and with a lack of irony in Bob Clark's direction, the film is a missed opportunity and fails to penetrate beneath the star-element.
