This, the second James Bond film, goes at a great pace, beginning with a splendid opening sequence. Then it's a matter of one highlight, spectacle or thrill after another, with helicopters, trains, cars and speedboats figuring in some of the fast action and some sumptuous locations. And, apart from various surprises and bizarre touches, there's the expected wide variety of glamorous females, topped by the stunning Daniela Bianchi, who plays the Russian Bond helps to defect to the West. The not-so-attractive Lotte Lenya, as Rose Kleb, a villainess de luxe with deadly shoes, gets Bond's blood racing in a different way! Robert Shaw is the chief villain with whom Bond has the famous life-and-death struggle aboard a train. Great vintage spy hokum.
