Rosamund Pike, MTV Movie Awards, LA, May 2003

Rosamund Pike

Born: 27 January 1979
Where: London, England

The Oxford English graduate made her feature debut as icy Bond girl Miranda Frost alongside Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day.

The daughter of an opera singer and a concert violinist, Pike was accepted aged 16 into the National Youth Theater where she was eventually cast in her first lead role at age 18 , a production of Romeo & Juliet.

The performance landed her an agent, and she embarked on a professional career while also attending Oxford University, where she studied English Literature.

(while she was there she became friends with President Clinton's daughter Chelsea).

"I'm probably not going to play a junkie and that's OK because there are other people who will do it better."

In 1998 she appeared in her first TV movie role, A Rather English Marriage starring Tom Courtenay and Albert Finney. She also appeared in the mini series Wives and Daughters and Love in a Cold Climate.

In 2002 Pike became an internationally recognized figure after being cast as Miranda Frost in the 20th James Bond adventure, Die Another Day.

Although only 22 when the film was shot, Pike held her own against A-list movie stars Brosnan, Halle Berry and Judi Dench.

After Bond, she returned to the theatre as The Blonde in Terry Johnson's Hitchcock Blonde at London's Royal Court Theatre.

In 2004, she starred in the documentary-style human-trafficking drama Promised Land and played Elizabeth Malet opposite Johnny Depp in The Libertine.

Recent work includes the role of Jane Bennett opposite Keira Knightley in Pride & Prejudice and Samantha in the sci-fi yarn Doom.
