A big-name cast including Robin Williams, Patricia Arquette, Gerard Depardieu and Jim Broadbent join Bob Hoskins in this adaptation of a Joseph Conrad novel. Hoskins plays Verloc, a double agent in the pay of the Russians in late 19th-century London who is asked to blow up the Royal Observatory to discredit Russian anarchists. But things don't go to plan. The film takes a good book and makes a dull, slow-moving drama out of it, despite acceptable performances. Look out for a young Christian Bale (American Psycho) as Arquette's son.
