Clay Pigeons at least looks good --- but as dark comedies go, it's pretty way-out. Joaquin Phoenix plays a small-town mechanic, whose life unravels when he is suspected of multiple murders, just as smooth-talking cowboy Vince Vaughn arrives in town, displaying psychotic tendencies... With its deadpan playing and offbeat, Fargo-like approach to murder, it's rewarding, but an acquired taste.
