Stand-up comedian Bernie Mac stars in this largely unfunny sports comedy as Stan Ross, an egocentric and selfish but brilliant baseball player, who retires immediately after his milestone 3000th hit. Nearly a decade later, he discovers that three of his hits didn't count, which not only proves a massive blow to his ego, but will stop his dream of being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame from coming true. There's nothing else for it: Stan, now aged 47, has to shape up and rejoin his team - now filled with young players who resent him - in order to grab the chance of making those three hits. As the arrogant Stan begins to learn the error of this ways, things run strictly to formula. Angela Bassett has little to do as his love interest, but the biggest shame is that, while Mac does what is required of him in the lead role, the film wastes that talent for acerbic wit that made him a comic star.
