The Village
It's 1890s Pennsylvania, and the inhabitants of the isolated village of Covington (population 60) live a simple and happy existence - but they dare not walk into the woods. Because here be monsters - terrifying, mystical, mythical creatures known simply as "Those We Do Not Speak Of..." It's nicely acted, beautifully shot (in Chester County, Pennsylvania actually) and - as this is an M Night at the movies - of course comes with a twist or two.
I had heard one bad review & lots of good ones about the film. So, I decided to take all of my friends to see it. Man, I regret it! There was no humour in it & the director managed to only slip in three mild 'jump out of your seat' moments in the whole film. My advice to those thinking about going to see it: DONT! Save your money & hire out a film you've seen a million times - you'll enjoy that much more!

Great film... one of the best this year... the suspense was fantastic... the twist at the end was great.

I lost the will to live. This has to be the worst (along with AI) film that I have ever seen. The only good thing is I bought three cinema tickets, so we got The Sixth Sense free on DVD. Do not waste your time.
Dee Smith
I thought on the whole the storyline was very good, but it was very slow. The suspense was very good and made me jump a few times. I think it's worth a watch.
Coco Yung
Very creepy, it made me jump in the cinema. The best horror movie I've seen and it made my spine shiver.
Suzanne Locke
After the dreary Unbreakable and the anti-climactic Signs, Shyamalan is back on heart-lurching, girly-squealy, nail-digging form with The Village. There's just one word that would give this away... but the one word I'm going for is - thrilling.
Marc Callan
It's the greatest waste of 2 hours of my life. Sitting to wait for something to happen and then when there is a twist I sat in the cinema going to myself, 'wait there, I already knew that.' As you watch this film, you can see where it is going.
Charlie Patman
I personally thought this film was brilliant. The plot was obvious and so was the ending but I shall not say what it is! Parts made me jump even though I am not one normally to jump. Altogether I thought it was a brilliant film that everyone should see.
Elliott Noble
M Night Shymalan thinks of a twist and builds a movie around it. So if, like me, your sixth sense kicks in and you see it coming, the rest of the story has to engage and involve on other levels. In this, The Village only partly succeeds. The characters are interesting and there's plenty of musically enhanced suspense, but what's with all that "Those we do not speak of" (whom the Villagers talk about incessantly) and "The shed that must not be entered" hogwash? Atmospheric but hollow.
