James (Wilkinson) and Anne (Watson) appear to have it all.
With a house in the country to escape their hectic lives in London and no children it is obvious they want for nothing...or so it seems!
At a cricket match Anne meets the dashing and incredibly posh Bill (Everett).
The change in this meeting for Anne from the docile wife is significant - to the outside world she seemed content but now she displays some passion and excitement that evidently was lying below the surface in her comfortable and lustless marriage.
She is a housewife with not much to do but cater for the needs of her husband James and so leaps at the chance to be frivolous but with disastrous consequences.
Emily Mortimer plays Anne and gives a very sound performance...at times though a little cold.
For someone who is dealing with such a huge amount of guilt you would think she’d be a little more rattled and a little less concerned with her love life!
The plot evolves neatly at a good pace but for a story that could be rife with drama, emotion, suspense and full of sympathy leaves you rather numb.
The acting undeniably is convincing yet for such a good cast you might be left wanting and expecting more.
This would sit better in a Drama slot on terrestrial TV rather than the big screen.
