The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Bill Murray is the washed-up oceanographer determined to sink the shark that did for his buddy in Wes Anderson's tenderly skewed comedy. Continual intrusions by his crew provide surreal flourishes - the deckhand who warbles Bowie's greatest hits in Portuguese - and warped setpieces - particularly a zero-budgeted assault on a pirate's island - lampoon the action genre. However, it's the touching interplay between a random grouping of flawed romantics that provides the film's emotional thrust.
I can understand why some people wouldn't like this film. It's overly subtle, the acting is deliberately flat and it's downright strange. But that is what gives this film true greatness. It has a childlike quality to it which doesn't need constant action or drama to carry it through. This film reminds me of the twisted sticks you find washed up on a beach, when looked at through childlike eyes it can be anything and everything. For everyone else it's merely a twisted stick.

I agree with all the above reviews, I was also bored out of my skin and did not find anything funny. You really need to ignore the critic's rating!!
Richard Lewis
Avoid this and ignore the critic's rating. This film is awful, pointless and is a huge waste of two excellent acting talents in Bill Murrey and Cate Blanchett. I was left scratching my head afterwards and thinking what was that all about. I don't very often disagree with critics' opinions but they have got this one very, very wrong.
Alastair Hepburn
Having started to watch this film for 50 minutes, I was bored out of my skin and did not find anything funny.

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as the guys below. I had heard so much about this movie that I had just had to see." It's meant to be really funny". My brother will never let me forget those words. This movie was a big disappointment. I am a fan of Bill Murray and yet in this there are moments of comedy but overall it is a drawn out affair, and you just want it to end. There's a really good cast and some funky looking fish but you will jump overboard after watching this. Very poor.

Ok this movie isn't good yet isn't crap. It passes the time and yes I am a fan of weird comedy but not when people try to be weird for the sake of being weird. Nothing really happens and the only star who really does anything is Bill Murray but when is he really ever crap?
Colin Shackleton
I agree with Dan, this film is rubbish. I only continued watching it to see if I could understand why everyone else was giving it 5 stars. Two hours later and I wish I hadn't bothered, not a laugh or even a smile in sight. I've had more fun at a funeral and if it had gone on much longer it might have been mine as I was quickly losing the will to live. I guess you will either love or hate this film, no prize for guessing which way my vote will go.
James Sargent
Very Funny, and definitly Wes Anderson's best movie yet.
Eddy McGowan
This is a subtle, quirky comedy that requires the viewer to have a reasonable level of inteligence in order to understand. Music is also top notch. Dan has no taste.

Is there a rating lower than 1 star? This was the absolute worst movie I have ever seen. The actors should return their pay and demand to have their names removed from the credits. There was nothing positive about this movie. I felt that I lost 2 hours of my life after seeing this junk.
