The actress first attracted attention in two high profile movies - drama The Prestige and romantic comedy Starter for Ten.
The daughter of theatre director Peter Hall and opera singer Maria Ewing, Hall made her screen debut as Young Sophy in the 1992 TV series The Camomile Lawn.
She went on to appear as a child actress in the TV mystery Don't Leave Me This Way as well as The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends.
After landing an art scholarship at boarding school she studied English briefly at Cambridge University and, while a student, also took part in amateur productions.
In 2003 she won the Charleson award for her debut stage performance in a production of Mrs Warren's Profession and enjoyed a successful world tour in As You Like It.
In 2006, she starred in a TV adaptation of The Wild Sargasso Sea and played Hugh Jackman's wife in fantasy thriller The Prestige.
The same year she also appeared in the romantic drama Starter for Ten with James McAvoy.
