George and the Dragon

After the First Crusade, battle-weary knight George (James Purefoy) heads back to Blighty to buy a small piece of land from King Edgar (Simon Callow). Edgar has his own problems - his daughter Princess Lunna (Piper Perabo), who was just about to marry evil Patrick Swayze's powerful warlord, disappears, apparently being abducted by the last dragon on Earth. A medieval romp that actually casts George as the dragon's protector as opposed to its persecutor.

George and the Dragon

George returns to England with a Moor in-tow to the rescue of a princess from her impending marriage to an evil fiend, it touches upon most of the reference points established by superior films of this kind gone by e.g. Prince Of Thieves, Princess Bride, and A Knight’s Tale.

Although it doesn’t come anywhere near the heights of films named above, it’s a medieval romp all the same with a cheap and cheerful feel and cast of recognisable faces.

These include James Purefoy, Patrick Swayze and Michael Clark Duncan. Purefoy is George and Swayze camps it up as the baddie – Sir Garth.

George is tasked with finding Princess Lunna – who has been taken to the cave of a dying dragon. There she finds a dragon’s egg which becomes the focal point around which all the goodies rally to protect.

Although aimed a very young audience, the script and action is varied enough to keep most adults interested also.
