Dreamgirls
Established soulstress Beyonce and feisty newcomer Jennifer Hudson slug it for lead vocal duties in this lung-busting diva-thon from Bill "Chicago" Condon. Eddie Murphy dons a dignity-defying wig as a Little Richard-style soul man while Jamie Foxx is the slippery car salesman-turned-music manager in a musical which delivers in sheer singalong bravura what it lacks in subtlety.
Sisters are doin' it for themselves in an entertainingly soul-searching yet by-the-numbers spectacular. In the battle for sassy Supreme-acy, newcomer Jennifer Hudson kicks Beyonce's bony booty into the wings. In fact, Ms Hudson gives unwarranted heft to the some pretty forgettable tunes, belting them out like Michael Bolton with a megaphone. If she ever records an album of lullabies, a generation of kids could end up deaf. Eddie Murphy's impression of Cat out of Red Dwarf is a stone-groove too.
