Top Gun
The decade-defining actioner that shot Tom Cruise into the Hollywood stratosphere sees Hollywood's golden boy as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, a hotshot flier at the US Navy's elite air combat training school. Kelly McGillis is the civilian lecturer who handily doubles up as the love interest and Berlin's Oscar-winning title song Take My Breath Away is still creating the atmosphere in a million bars on the Continent. A real modern great.
"I fell the need. The need for speed!!!!". I think this film is Tom Cruise's first true triumph. Legend, All the Right Moves, Risky business etc. etc., not a patch on this. He brilliantly portrays a cocky Naval Aviator who is selected to attend TOP GUN. It's a school for the best pilots in the navy to compete against one another where the pilot with the best score will be asked to return as a TOP GUN instructor. I dunno, maybe they get paid more for it or something. Thin plot but excellent film.

What can I say... Classic film. Probably one of the best ever made... Definately one of Tom's finer moments... It has everything on this show - action, romance, excellent effects for the era. Even the soundtrack is worth a buy.
