Sin City
Action maestro Robert "Spy Kids" Rodriguez transfers living comic book legend Frank Miller's Sin City to the big screen in a visual tour de force of computer-generated visuals. Three stories get the CGI treatment with Mickey Rourke making a triumphant return as Marv the street fighter seeking to avenge his broad's untimely demise. Stunning 21st century film noir for the Loaded generation.
SIN CITY heralds a new chapter in graphic novel adaptations. The look and feel of Frank Miller's comic masterpiece is expertly converted to the big screen. It is one of those films that is split into sections (a familiar trait of Rodriguez and his compadre Tarantino) and each time a chapter closes you find yourself wishing that the film would not end just yet. Sometimes violent, often shocking, this movie is clearly not for everybody's eyes. A personal highlight: Elijah Wood.

This is the film I've been waiting years for. It's dark, it's violent, it's the best comic book brought
to film yet. The characters are larger than life and the violence is way overdone, but what do you expect? It will make you laugh, make you cheer, shock you and make you cry out for more. From start to finish, you'll love this film. Forget Batman, Spiderman, the Fantastic 4, Hulk et al, this is the best comic book adaptation ever.

This is a fantastic film. Truly a breath of fresh hair. Marv is the coolest character in years to hit the cinema screen. However Clive Owen's usual dire performance is a small but insignificant black mark in the larger scheme of things.

Comic books don't look good when put on the big screen? Think again - this film will blow you away. From the first 10 minutes you will be hooked and for good reason, not since Spiderman or Batman Begins have comic book films looked this good. With the 'Who's who' of Hollywood putting in a performance here or there it will leave you feeling like you are watching a night at the Oscars and not one performance is bad. Its like watching a comic come to life and what a life it is!

There is one word for this film: 'WOW!' Love it, love it, LOVE IT - and I'm a girl! Gritty, dark, violent, bloodthirsty, razor-sharp casting and script - FAB. If I had to complain about anything, I'd say Britney Murphy is a bit pants but otherwise - WATCH IT, You won't regret it!
Ben Redford
Without doubt the ultra-coolest film of 2005. Mickey Rourke is great as Marv, Bruce Willis as Hartigan and Clive Owen as Dwight. The special effects are of a very high standard and the action is pounding.

Please ignore James below. I am not a comic book fan but I appreciate that if a movie of this nature is based on a comic of course it's going to adopt this style and it manages it quite well. Mainly shot in blacks and whites with the occasional hint of colour to add to the impact of some scenes. The action is wickedly good and also entertaining. All the actors do well and it's good to see Rourke getting away without needing to wear much make up. This is a class film.

Have we all been watching the same film? I found this film a drab, dire account of nothing and nasty nothing at that. The plots in this film are dull and weary and the comic book style narration just irritates. If you are a comic book kid then great, you will probably enjoy this. However, I'm not, I had a life.

It makes you laugh and then wince. It first gives you that dirty oily feeling in the back of your mind when you watch something that's plainly wrong, you then think on it for a little while, and then recoil shuddering upon realising you enjoyed it. Dare to enjoy the dark side.

This film holds so many punches its hard to dodge 'em. Very cleverly created. I believe it's a classic that will stick on you like Pulp Fiction did and for a very long time. It's very different from most of the films I've seen for years.

What can I say about this film? Well read the cast listing for a start and if that doesn't hook you then surely the director will. Well the film is the best I've seen but in all the goood ways. This is going to be the film of the year.

Never enjoyed a comic film so much, please let's have more.

How can you describe it? Even a sentence like "violent, stylish, hard-boiled film noir that pulls no punches and expects no mercy" won't come close to capturing the style and energy of what Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have created. Every line is like it's been stolen from Hammet or Chandler (then twisted, polished and wrapped in barbed wire and read by Tom Waits). Do yourself a favour. Leave the kids at home and go see it.

Best movie of the year. Pure action, great dialogues, great actors. An absolute pleasure to watch. Stylish and incredibly violent.
