Another big adventure film from the same team - star Gregory Peck, writer/producer Carl Foreman and director J Lee Thompson - that made The Guns of Navarone. But Foreman's script is not quite up to the same standard, and the girls tend to get in the way a bit more. However, Omar Sharif is unexpectedly mobile and spirited as the ruthless bandit Colorado and Gregory Peck reliably staunch as Sheriff Mackenna, who by accident comes into possession of a map pointing the way to fabulous hidden treasure. The rugged desert terrain is also impressive, thanks to the fine Technicolor photography of Joseph MacDonald. The voice of the narrator belongs to veteran actor Victor Jory.
