A thriller that's as smooth and steely as James Mason's central performance as the embassy valet who steals Allied secrets for the Nazis. Director Joseph L Mankiewicz masterminds the documentary approach that had already distinguished a number of the Fox studio's realist thrillers in post-war years. The result is a tension-filled winner all the way.
