Louisa May Alcott's autobiographical tale of four sisters growing up in straightened circumstances during the American Civil War gets a so-so treatment here. Despite a good cast --- Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Susan Sarandon and Claire Danes --- this version just fails to pull at the heart strings.
