The rocky star careers of Molly Ringwald and Patrick Dempsey took a further knock when they proved not to have the stature or talent to make a go of this potentially interesting musical romance which has some themes in common with the more recent Grace of My Heart without making anything like the same impact. Considering she's the daughter of a musician and her earliest ambition was to be a singer, Ringwald shows remarkably little aptitude at carrying a song: it's not surprising she's stuck in a dingy Paris nightclub until she runs into lyricist Dempsey. Ensuing developments are pleasant enough in rather old-fashioned Hollywood style, with the acting honours going to Lysette Anthony as Ringwald's rival both in singing and love.
