A police officer is murdered while protecting a woman from assassins, and supercop Jack Reed (Brian Dennehy, who also directs) begins his fourth cinematic adventure as he pursues the killers. On the roundabout way to solving the crime, he unravels a nest of corruption in high places. If the plot is average and not all it could be, some of the characters appearing lend it peripheral interest, such as Jack's intelligent chief, played by Charles S Dutton, and Bernie Coulson as a speed addict.
