Rhona Mitra

Born: 9 August 1976
Where: Paddington, London, UK

The former teenage rebel is best known as the one-eyed, kick-ass military commander Eden Sinclair in the horror thriller Doomsday.

Other big screen outings have ranged from Sly Stallone's dire remake of Get Carter to an evil grad student in The Life of David Gale.

"It's a confusing heritage. I never know if I want to be running across the fields with no clothes on or sitting in the pub drinking Guinness."

The daughter of a cosmetic surgeon of Indian origin and an Irish mother, she was sent to a series of boarding schools after her parents divorced when she was just eight.

A troublesome teen, she was expelled from two schools - including the prestigious Roedean - for a number of transgressions, including taking a car when she was 14.

Eventually, she passed her examinations after attending a cramming school in London and then launched herself onto the capital's club scene, including the Ministry of Sound.

(she used to work in the cloakroom at Browns club where she would voice coach Robert Downey Jr who was in England making Chaplin).

After bowing out one year into a three-year drama course she made her first on-screen appearance in the 1996 kids' TV show Ghostbusters of East Finchley.

Roles followed in The Bill and the mini-series The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous before she landed her debut film role as Scheherazade in A Kid In Aladdin's Palace.

Mitra was also the original live action Lara Croft model for Eidos Interactive's Tomb Raider series, appearing at trade shows and other events.

(it is widely reported that she had her breasts surgically increased for the job).

She had a small role in the 1998 Clive Owen thriller Croupier and went on to play Mollie in the drama Monk Dawson alongside Martin Kemp.

Next up was the part of Kyra in the sci-fi adventure Beowulf, starring Christopher Lambert, and her American breakthrough - a recurring role in the TV show Party of Five.

In 2000, she landed a supporting role as the neighbour in the sci-fi drama Hollow Man and she also played Geraldine in the duff remake if the British thriller Get Carter.

Back in Britain, she starred opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in the comedy spoof Ali G Indahouse and had a supporting role in the Reese Witherspoon rom-com Sweet Home Alabama.

Switching styles, she starred opposite James Caviezel in the 2003 revenge thriller Highwaymen and also appeared alongside Kevin Spacey in The Life of David Gale.

A brief appearance - "blonde bombshell at bus stop" in the comedy Stuck On You followed before she landed recurring roles in hit American TV series Boston Legal and Nip/Tuck.

In 2007, she starred with Jim Carrey in the mystery thriller The Number 23 and also appeared in the action thriller The Shooter with Mark Wahlberg.

In 2008, she received top billing in the Neil Marshall horror-thriller Doomsday alongside Bob Hoskins.
