The Whitehall-type farce lurched into the Seventies with this cinema version of Ray Cooney's stage hit co-directed by Cooney and David Croft, who went on to create some of British TV's most durable comedies. Trousers fall, girls lose their clothes and hairsbreadth exits and doubles entendres galore adorn this very stagy piece which cannot be saved even by such brilliant farceurs as Leslie Phillips, Moira Lister, Barbara Windsor and Joan Sims. Julie Ege does supply some stunning Nordic beauty but veterans Jack Hulbert and Cicely Courtneidge must have wondered what on earth they'd wandered into. A dismal ending, indeed, to film careers that glittered at their brightest in the Thirties.
