This account of the events leading up to those shown in the famous film Zulu, one of the greatest action movies of all time, is an exciting piece of movie-making craftsmanship, especially in its deployment of the vast forces used in its epic battle scenes. Burt Lancaster has a key role as Colonel Durnford, a one-armed veteran of numerous African campaigns, and Peter O'Toole plays General Lord Chelmsford, in command of the British forces. A youngish Bob Hoskins is unmissable as the company sergeant major.
