The quirky, frizzy-haired, tinted sunglasses wearer started off as a Disney animator.He has since brought an inimatable style to Hollywood in such films as Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish.
- Burton's films often: have a Gothic feel; include Christmas or Hallowe'en; and open with night-time snowfall.
- He usually dress in black...because he doesn't like spend too much time matching colours.
- Burton frequently uses composer Danny Elfman - and just as frequently casts Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton.
- He often features scarecrows, clowns or dead or dismembered dogs.
- He has an obsession with horror actors - he's made movies about Vincent Price and Ed Wood, and cast Vincent Price, Michael Gough, Christopher Lee and Christopher Walken in his films.
- The inspiration for Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas was Beetlejuice, who turns into a bizarre creature with a merry-go-round on his head at the end of the film - with a smiling skull atop the lot.
